A Facial Peel Can Banish Acne
A facial peel can have far reaching consequences, not just in banishing the unsightly signs of acne but also as a major contribution to the process of rejuvenation. Of course it can’t literally halt the aging process but it can, most certainly, act to delay its signs. New technologies and improvements to older procedures have led to a huge leap forward in the science of anti-aging and improved techniques for peeling are just one of the areas to experience major developments.
Peeling is a chemical process and the chemical agents employed vary according to the depth of treatment that is indicated by the nature and severity of the condition to be treated. On this basis, peeling procedures may be divided into 3 categories.
The first is quite superficial in nature and employs alpha hydroxy acids that exert a mild but visible smoothing and softening effect. The chemical mix is applied in the form of masques and this type of facial peel is particularly effective in the reduction of fine lines and reducing inflammation.
Medium peeling uses Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) and has proved to be effective against sun damage, several forms of pigmentation and the more severe cases of acne. The procedure is quite short, safe and totally painless, allowing patients to return to work immediately afterwards and thus making it a very popular option.
In combination with dermal fillers this type of peeling acts as a non-surgical lift that many patients claim has slashed 10 years from their appearance.
Deep peeling employs Phenol as the chemical agent and is a much longer process that may require between 1 and 2 hours for completion. It is used to assist patients with deep and widespread wrinkling or with more severe cases of pigmentation.
Deep peeling can also be used for safe removal of pre-cancerous growths and, typically, is applied as a full-face treatment although it is often confined to just the lips and eyelids.
As these treatments are quite radical, up to 14 days may be required for full recovery from this type of facial peel.
